Barton le Clay

Barton le Clay is a village in the South of Bedfordshire close to the town of Luton, approximately 30 miles north of London. It’s history dates back to before 1066 and it is mentioned in the Domes day book. Until 1990 the A6 trunk road ran through the village before a bypass was built diverting the traffic around the village. Today Barton le Clay is a vibrant community with a number of shops and other amenities including two schools,a library and a football club..

One of the special features about Barton are the Barton Springs. Found in the National Nature Reserve of Barton Hills the springs were a popular spot during the turn of the century for day trippers. Watercress grew in the stream which once gushed from the chalk hillside. Today the spring can still be seen but the flow of water has greatly reduced. However the Barton Hills are still home to chalk land flowers, butterflies and insects.
